The 2020 Toughest Monster Truck Tour competitors have been raising the bar each weekend with stellar performances and the points standings are tighter than ever.
The Utah based Team Throttle Monster consisting of Mikeal Christensen in Vendetta and Paul Jensen in Kamikaze dominated the first few events of the year and built a small lead over the rest of the field. Then Jerry Beck in the original ‘flying dump truck’ came alive and started claiming Wheelie and Freestyle competition wins, and eventually took the points lead for a week from Jensen.
With consistent performance across all three disciplines, Mike Christensen (son of monster truck legend Kreg Christensen) currently leads the points, but with only a small margin over Jensen and Beck. The Toughest Tour uses a unique points system in which each competitor’s 4 lowest scores are dropped from from the calculation. “We use a formula to even out the amount of events each competitor participates in, and it also allows for certain amount of bad luck or parts breakage to not affect your overall score. In the end we get a very true picture of each driver’s performance over the whole series” explained Brian Manson of MTX Event Production, who produces the Toughest Monster Truck Tour each season.
One of the highlights of the year has been the addition of Bailey Shea driving a new-look Quad Chaos. A former quad racer herself, she was a natural selection for the world’s largest ATV and has be a huge hit with the fans. “I’m absolutely thrilled to be back in a monster truck, and just as thrilled to be out meeting all the awesome fans at the pit parties before each show!” explained Bailey. “My goal this year is to get back the groove with the truck and beat some of these guys. They certainly have not been taking it easy on me!”.
